 I have not been able to spend much time at my easels lately. I’m slowly making progress on these two oil paintings. The scorpion and cockroach painting was inspired by Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present by Ruth Ben-Ghiat.

Poem: Like A Small Pet

Slouched in his beat-up chair.

Preppy plaid boxers 

and a white tee shirt.

Unwashed hair and his eyeglasses at the tip of his nose.

Coverless paperback in one hand

a cigarette in the other

Coca cola bottle at the ready on the floor 

next to the chair.

Eyes greedily taking in the book.

His legs were usually crossed 

ankle on knee

or spread out with his feet on the floor.

The head of his penis peeking out of his boxers

sometimes it was 

        pink

other times it was         

        purple

His glans was like a small pet 

hoping for attention.
