Basswood head painted with acrylic.

Two maquettes in progress. The homage to Brancusi, et al on the left I imagine would be about 6-8’. The piece on the right you’ve seen before. Below is a Birch branch I found and loved. The cardboard pieces will be painted Basswood. I’m still working out a base.

Oseberg Viking and Demon Cranium

I finally finished a couple of carvings today. I painted (stained?) the 12” Oseberg-style Viking with diluted Norwegian Orange acrylic. The Basswood Demon Cranium was painted with heavy-body acrylic.

This is a study for a watercolor I’ll be doing on Ampersand Aquabord. I expect the final version to be a bit darker, and I’ve decided to move the gold tooth to the other side.

Sketch and Maquette

This is a sketch- and now today- a maquette (or modello) for a multi-stone garden sculpture I’d like to do.

I think granite would be cool, and then paint the ravens and Odin with red Lithichrome paint.

The maquette is in gray/brown air dry clay. Should be about the right color when dry. I’ll paint the ravens and Odin with the red acrylic, and then put it all together on a base. At that point I’ll decide if I want to go garden-size. I was thinking in the neighborhood of three-ish feet tall.
